Rhetorical visual analysis - Assignment Example The distinction seems to be a product applied in the bleeding eye. According to the beliefs we uphold, bleeding is associated with pain hence in the on start the message that appears in the mind is that this person must be suffering. To make matters worse, the bleeding part is one of the most sensitive parts of the body, the eye. We all are very careful what we expose our eyes to. Mke-si-mume: Neocolonialism and Sexual Practice in Kenya Essay
Mke-si-mume: Neocolonialism and Sexual Practice in Kenya The Republic of Kenya, voted one of the top five hottest tourist attractions in the world and labeled as one of the most promising and developing third world countries in Africa. This beautiful country has been a source of major controversy and debate as it takes a step into the 21st century. The topic of discussion that has sparked such great interest ranging from the President of Kenya up until the United Nations is the subject of homosexuality. At first I will talk about the way the government has essentially denounced all rights and equality of people who practice same-sex relations in Kenya. Then I will move to address when and how same-sex activity first began in Kenya and what it really means to be gay in Kenya. Furthermore I will cover how the issue of homosexuality rainfalls into many other aspects such as the economy, globalization, neo-colonialism, family and the workplace. Besides all the social issues same-sex offenders must deal with the principal reason most Africans never reveal their sexuality is because of the government. The continent is among the most war-torn, but several African leaders have found one thing on which they agree: homophobia. The fact is that it is illegal to be gay in Kenya. Sections 162 to 165 of the Penal Code criminalize homosexual behavior and attempted homosexual behavior between men, referring to it as "carnal knowledge against the order of nature". The penalty is 5 to 14 years' imprisonment. However lesbian relations are not mentioned in the law (www.ilga.com). Africa is a male-dominated country and therefore doesnââ¬â¢t include female relations in the law; additionally there is a longer and much more dominant presence of ... ...litical group and given a proper change in Kenya, a new political schema. This was the goal of one of the very first gay activists who formed the recently disbanded Forum for Positive Generations on AIDS Prevention. Its intention was to increase social awareness and understanding towards people with AIDS and to emphasize and relieve the plight or marginalized groups such as homosexuals with AIDS. Studies have shown that homosexual behavior within the normal is being ignored, but in light of all the recent events, despite the negative approach, people will begin to take thought of the very real existence of the gay and lesbian community that exists. The fight for equality will continue and there shall come a day when people can identify themselves as who they are openly and being gay or practicing same-sex intercourse will be an acceptable part of society in Kenya.

`` Hills Like White Elephants `` By Ernest Hemingway
In the valley there were hills brighter than the cars passing by on the highway. Red, green, orange, and yellow. On this side of the highway there was a small building with warm colors that people called ââ¬Å"A taste of Barcelonaâ⬠. When I first entered the building, I noticed that there was a Latin band playing salsa. To my right I noticed that a man asked a woman to dance. It was an interesting site. Men and woman dancing with each other on the wooden dance floor. It is so amazing how specific details in Short Fiction or any story can be. Take John Steinbeckââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"The Chrysanthemumsâ⬠for example. It starts out with a detailed setting to the reader that reveals certain elements that the reader could otherwise not see. This can also be seen in Ernest Hemingwayââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Hills Like White Elephantsâ⬠. The setting for both of these stories is revealed to the reader right at the start of the story. This begs questions such as Why do these authors reveal the setting so early? What does this entail? Revealing the setting of the story can contain a great deal of information before any of the hard facts are even mentioned. For example, a vivid description of the setting can allow the reader to see between the lines of the plane text and notice things that they could possibly miss through their first time reading. Setting can also help give insight to the audience by foreshadowing, giving hints to the major plot and even showing distinct elements that could not be found elsewhere. [Optional: Who do you think was right and why? You may use extra lines if you would like to respond.] Houston fought for black civil rights through the legal system. He was a prominent black lawyer and believed that legal tradition inspired judicial restraint, whereas legal realism inspired judicial activism. This not only sparked a change in those that worked with Houston, but it incorporated using laws to help blacks with civil injustices wherever possible. DuBois approached school integration and civil rights issues through militant socialism. He believed that blacks needed to strengthen their own infrastructure in order to gain a better social structure. This didnââ¬â¢t sit well with the NAACP. I believe that Houston had a better approach to the issue of school integration because his approach was accepted by more individuals. DuBois offended more people by saying that blacks needed to create a change amongst themselves in order to be accepted more in society. 4) The Supreme Court ruled on Sweatt v. Painter and McLaurin v.
